Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, today said that India’s model in solar power generation is the most successful one in the world. Speaking to the media during the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly in New Delhi, Mr. Joshi said that 21 lakh rooftop solar units have been installed under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme, and around 50 percent of people are getting zero electricity bills.
The Minister said that under the PM-KUSUM scheme, farmers are generating and also selling solar energy. Mr. Joshi said that India is sharing its experience with the member countries during deliberations in the ISA Assembly. The Minister also highlighted that ISA member countries are contributing to over 40 percent of Solar energy generated around the world.
Talking to Akashvani News, Director General of ISA, Ashish Khanna, said that Ministers and representatives of 125 countries and over 50 organisations are participating in the ISA Assembly this time. He said that during the two-day assembly, the discussion will focus on joint procurement by small island nations, how all nations will work under the one-sun one-world one-grid program and how to prepare standards on recycling, among others.
Mr. Khanna said that the nations that are yet to explore the option of Solar Power, which they need the most, are looking towards India for guidance in the matter.
