Union Minister Piyush Goyal Highlights India’s Growth, Sustainability Goals at UNCTAD Session in Geneva

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal attended the XVIth Session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva today. Addressing the session, Mr Goyal emphasised India’s focused efforts to eliminate poverty, drive demand-led growth and infrastructure development. The Minister further reiterated the nation’s commitment to sustainability and climate change mitigation.
 
 
He underlined the importance of Global South cooperation and highlighted India’s progress in digital empowerment and initiatives to promote growth across all sections of society. Mr. Goyal said that India has been the fastest-growing large economy with over 7 per cent average annual growth over the last three years. Emphasizing India’s sustainability leadership, the Minister said that half of the country’s installed power capacity comes from renewables. The Minister also offered support to developing nations in technology, cooperation and building resilient supply chains.
 
 
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the visit of the Minister reaffirms India’s commitment as a trusted partner in global trade and development.
