Union Minister Piyush Goyal today criticised the Congress party, alleging that it attempted to avoid a scheduled debate in the Lok Sabha. Talking to reporters at Parliament premises, Mr. Goyal said that a notice for a no-confidence motion against the Speaker had been admitted at the request of the Congress, though the draft initially required corrections before being accepted.
He added that the date for discussion on the motion had been decided after due deliberation. He said, when the motion had already been admitted and a debate scheduled for today, but the Congress brought another motion at the same time. He alleged that the party neither understood parliamentary procedures nor respected constitutional processes.
