Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today co-chaired a meeting with Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi, to directly engage with India’s exporters, importers and port authorities.
In a social media post, Mr Goyal said that the Government is committed to ensuring coordinated, time-bound measures to address concerns and create opportunities to make Indian traders more competitive globally with a ‘Whole of the Government’ approach. The Minister said that the Government has relentlessly worked to build a seamless, efficient, responsive and future-ready trade ecosystem to advance Ease of Doing Business.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said that the meeting focused on better container movement as the Gulf-bound containers have also been rerouted to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority. During the meeting, both Ministers addressed the challenges emerging from the global situation and to ensure seamless trade facilitation for the trading community. Mr Sonowal said, the government is taking coordinated and proactive measures across ports and logistics systems to sustain Ease of Doing Business.
Ports, Shipping and Waterways Ministry said, Intern-Terminal Railway Handling Operation charges and Change of Mode of Transport charges were waived to provide relief to trade stakeholders. It said that Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority implemented a series of operational interventions to relieve terminals and expedite cargo evacuation. It added that containers were evacuated through rail movement even to nearby container freight stations equipped with railway sidings, while simultaneous scanning of double containers was introduced to reduce processing time.
