Union Minister Piyush Goyal calls for transforming India’s higher education system to global standards

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today called for transforming India’s higher education system to global standards and attracting more international students. Addressing the Vice Chancellors’ Conclave in New Delhi, he urged universities to modernise curricula and adopt emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing and machine learning. Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, Mr Goyal underlined that the policy was drafted after extensive consultations, with nearly three lakh inputs from across the country and overseas. He added that the policy has opened ways to aspire to international standards in education.

Mr Goyal further highlighted that today India engages with the world with confidence and from a position of strength. The Minister mentioned that the country contributes nearly 20 per cent to global growth. Mr Goyal also emphasised the need to encourage students from developed nations to study in India and said the goal is to reverse the trend of Indian students going abroad for education.
