Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary has said that over 8 lakh 35 thousand insurance claims have been settled in the year 2024-25. Replying in question hours in Lok Sabha, the Minister said under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government had launched several insurance schemes since 2014 for the upliftment of common citizens, including farmers. He said that in the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, around 50 percent women have enrolled. Giving details of insurance settlements, the Minister informed that under the Jeevan Jyoti insurance, a total of over 6 lakh 30 thousand claims have been settled, while in the General Insurance, around 1 lakh 67 thousand people have received claims. The Minister informed that over 99 thousand claims have been settled under the health insurance.
Responding to a query on the steps being taken by the government to address the mis-selling of insurance, Mr Chaudhary said that the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), a statutory body mandated to protect the interests of policyholders, is taking appropriate action against violators.
