Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari urged people, especially youth, to strictly follow traffic rules and control speed while driving, saying discipline on the road is essential to protect life. The Minister was speaking at a Road Safety Campaign programme at the Symbiosis auditorium in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where he interacted with students. Marathi actor Amey Wagh and writer-director Nipun Dharmadhikari conducted the interview.
Mr Gadkari said many people treat roads like a circus after getting a vehicle and ignore speed limits and traffic signals, leading to accidents. He noted that about 50,000 deaths occur annually due to not wearing helmets, while 26,000 deaths happen because seatbelts are not used. He appealed to citizens to follow road safety rules to save lives.
