Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that India must align its transport systems with global benchmarks to provide safe, efficient, and comfortable travel experiences to its citizens.
Addressing the Busworld India Conclave 2026 in New Delhi today, Mr Gadkari said the focus of the transport sector in the country is no longer limited to cost, but has shifted towards quality and comfort. He noted that the development of high-quality highways across the country has significantly reduced travel time and improved connectivity.
Mr Gadkari highlighted that travel between Delhi and Dehradun, which earlier took 8 to 9 hours, can now be completed in about two hours. The Minister informed that 36 green express highways are being developed across the country to promote faster, safer, and environmentally sustainable transport.
