Union Power Minister Manohar Lal underscored energy security as one of the most pressing global challenges of our time. Leading India’s delegation to the BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Brazil, the Minister showcased India’s clean energy achievements. He highlighted India’s decade-long progress in expanding power generation, boosting renewable energy, advancing green hydrogen, and improving energy access. The minister stressed the need for deeper cooperation among member nations to ensure economic stability and sustainable development. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to energy efficiency, green hydrogen, nuclear energy, and biofuels.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to strengthening energy security, tackling energy poverty, and supporting sustainable development. The BRICS Ministers also called for stronger partnerships, backed open, fair, and non-discriminatory international energy markets, and encouraged the use of local currencies in energy trade.
The BRICS Ministers supported each country’s right to follow its own energy transition path. They called for more concessional financing, supported the New Development Bank’s role in sustainable energy projects, and advocated for technological neutrality with fair and transparent global norms.
This year’s theme was “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.” India to host next BRICS Energy Gathering in 2026.
