Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram today said that tribal art reflects centuries-old civilisational wisdom and must be preserved, promoted and mainstreamed as part of the vision of Viksit Bharat. The Minister said this while addressing the Tribes Art Fest in New Delhi. 

 

In his address, Mr Oram said the exhibition provides a meaningful national platform for tribal painters, sculptors and performers from across the country. He noted that traditions such as Sohrai painting are deeply connected to festivals, agriculture and spirituality, reflecting the close relationship between tribal life and nature. The Minister emphasised that national-level platforms will provide artists with opportunities to exchange ideas and strengthen their livelihoods. He called for wider public participation in the fest so that more people can experience and appreciate tribal creativity, adding that promoting tribal art contributes to both cultural preservation and socio-economic empowerment.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey said the festival is not merely a cultural event but a celebration of India’s spiritual and civilisational ethos. He said the initiative aims to strengthen the identity, dignity and livelihoods of tribal communities and urged citizens to visit the festival and support tribal artisans.

 

The Ministers expressed confidence that sustained efforts by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and associated institutions will further strengthen the preservation, promotion and global recognition of India’s rich tribal heritage. The festival being held in the national capital will culminate on the 13th of this month.
