Union Minister of State for Fisheries George Kurian has said that the Centre is ready to develop MatsyaFed into a national-level cooperative model on the lines of Amul if the Kerala government approaches it with a proposal. Inaugurating a workshop under the PM Vikas scheme at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute in Vizhinjam near Thiruvananthapuram, the Minister said the Government would extend necessary financial support for the initiative. He stressed that meaningful growth in the fisheries sector can be achieved only through coordinated efforts between the Centre and the State. The workshop was organised as part of the Matsya Shakti project under the PM VIKAS scheme.
