Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani urged young members of the Indian diaspora in Baku to take pride in their dual identity. He said they should stay rooted in India’s ancient wisdom while embracing a modern and multicultural outlook.
Addressing a gathering of more than 1,000 Indians in Azerbaijan’s capital, he said the diaspora plays a vital role in strengthening India’s global presence and shaping its future. The event brought together professionals from sectors such as oil and gas, hospitality, and commodity trading, along with 380 Indian students studying in the country.
Dr Pemmasani praised the community’s unity. He noted the role of cultural and student groups such as the Indian Azerbaijan Association, Azerbaijan Telugu Association, Baku Tamil Sangham, and the Indian Students Association of Azerbaijan. He said these organisations keep cultural ties strong, even far from home. The Minister highlighted India’s rapid progress in digital innovation, renewable energy, space exploration, and economic growth.
He said the diaspora is an important part of this journey. Their achievements make India proud, their investments create opportunities, and their children build bridges between cultures. Dr Pemmasani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of Indians abroad. He assured the community that India’s doors will always remain open to them.
