Union Minister of Jal Shakti, C R Patil, has said that the government’s goal of Har Ghar Jal is becoming a powerful instrument of transformation in the lives of people across rural India. The Minister stated this yesterday while virtually presiding over the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 with the States of Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Goa.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Patil highlighted that with the objective of Har Ghar Jal, Har Gram Sujal, the Jal Jeevan Mission has emerged as a people-centric movement aimed at enhancing dignity, health and empowerment in rural areas. He added that the provision of tap water supply has made daily life more convenient, and it has also freed women from the drudgery of fetching water, enabling them to access time and opportunities for self-development.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti said the reform-linked MoU is aimed at ensuring every rural household has access to drinking water supply in adequate quantity and of prescribed quality on a regular basis. It also aims to bring structural reforms for sustainable operation and maintenance of rural water supply systems, enhancing the living standards of rural communities and contributing to long-term water security.
