Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar inaugurates 9th National Conference of Correctional Administrators

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar inaugurated the two-day 9th National Conference of Correctional Administrators, organised by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) and Andhra Pradesh Prisons and Correctional Services, in Visakhapatnam today.
 
Addressing the conference, Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that although the prisons department comes under the purview of the State government, the Central government is taking several measures for improving prisons, welfare of prison inmates, especially women. He informed that the central government has allocated 160 crore rupees for the safety and welfare of prisoners.
 
The Minister also mentioned that through the ‘Support to Poor Prisoners’ Scheme, the Central government has allocated 20 crore rupees annually to assist poor prisoners.  He added that the government is taking special measures to ensure that prisons are not places to fear anymore, but rather an environment where inmates can reform and lead dignified lives after their release.
