Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw laid the foundation stone for a new assembly line to produce laptops at the state-of-the-art Chennai facility of leading electronic systems design and manufacturing company Syrma SGS Technology Ltd in Tamil Nadu.

Syrma SGS is a Chennai-based company and it will collaborate with Taiwanese brand Micro Star International (MSI) which is a global leader in Artificial Intelligence PCs as its manufacturing partner in India to produce laptops for the Indian market. Through this strategic collaboration, Syrma SGS will assemble laptops for MSI at its Chennai facility.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said this facility marks a significant milestone in the ‘Make in India’ initiative, as Syrma SGS collaborates with MSI to produce laptops for the Indian market.

The Minister said, the facility will reinforce India’s commitment to becoming self-reliant in high quality IT hardware production. It will start with an initial production capacity of one lakh laptops annually and within next two years will increase it to one million units per year. The expansion is expected to create 150 to 200 additional jobs by 2026. The facility will not only meet domestic demand but also strengthen India’s role in the global IT supply chain.
