Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw today said that the government’s push for democratisation of technology has transformed the television viewing experience in India, making high-quality entertainment more accessible to households across the country.
Mr Vaishnaw said this while launching the National AI Skilling Initiative, My WAVES, in built TV Tuner and Advanced Electronic Program Guide (EPG) in New Delhi.
The Minister noted that what was once a large set-top box has now been integrated into modern television sets through built-in TV cards, a move enabled by collaboration between television manufacturers, Prasar Bharati, and Doordarshan under the Free Dish initiative.
Describing the technology as a significant step towards cost efficiency and ease of access for consumers, Mr Vaishnaw emphasised that the objective is to ensure high-quality entertainment reaches every household.
Speaking about My WAVES, Mr Vaishnaw said that the platform, along with Doordarshan’s Creators’ Corner initiative, provides a structured opportunity for creators to showcase India’s culture, tourism potential, handicrafts, and regional stories.
The Minister said that this initiative marks the development of a comprehensive ecosystem where the government, industry, and creator economy are coming together in a structured manner.
He encouraged content creators across the country to actively participate and use these platforms to amplify their voices.
He also urged the creators to take full advantage of this ecosystem, share their stories, and effectively monetise their content while contributing to India’s growing creative landscape.
