Union Minister Anupriya Patel addresses inaugural session of Medical Colleges Research Connect 2026

Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel today said that medical colleges in India have the potential to emerge as future innovation hubs for biomedical research. Addressing the inaugural session of Medical Colleges Research Connect 2026 in New Delhi, she said these institutions can offer students opportunities to undertake high-quality research. The Minister said the two-day event will provide suggestions for realigning research activities in the country.
 
Ms. Patel lauded the Union Budget 2026 for giving a top priority to medical research. She highlighted that the health institutions in India have completed around one thousand nine hundred research projects in recent years. The Minister also expressed hope that with the use of AI and the latest technology, medical research will be able to influence healthcare delivery and serve the goals of inclusivity.  
 
The two-day event organised by the Department of Health Research brings over a hundred medical colleges of India, where MRUs have been established. The conference will feature interactive lectures, workshops and symposia on topics related to writing improved proposals and training opportunities for biomedical research. The event is aimed at improving the ability of researchers at their institutions to conduct high-quality biomedical research.
