Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2025 in New Delhi. The rankings in the Overall Category were topped by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, followed by Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pradhan said, in 2014-15, there were fewer than 3.5 crore students in the higher education sector, which has now increased to 4.5 crore, and the government aims to double this number by 2030. Mr Pradhan highlighted that in 2014, India had 11 institutions in the QS World University Rankings’ top 500 category, which has now risen to 54. The Minister also mentioned that India’s ranking in the Times Higher Education Rankings has improved from 49 in 2019 to 113 today. He also stated that six IIMs and two business schools from India are now among the top 100 in the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings
Apart from the overall category, IIT Madras also topped the Engineering institutions category. Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, topped the Management institutions category. Further, AIIMS, Delhi, topped the Medical category while in the Law institutions category, the first rank was achieved by National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
