The UN Security Council is very worried about the increasing violence in and around El Fasher in Sudan. They strongly condemned the attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the terrible harm it is doing to people living there.
The council also condemned reports of the RSF committing cruel acts against civilians, like executions and wrongful arrests, and is seriously concerned about the potential for large-scale, ethnically motivated violence.
The UN demanded that everyone involved in the fighting must protect civilians, follow international law, and allow safe aid delivery. They insisted that the focus must be on restarting peace talks for a permanent ceasefire and a political solution.
Finally, the council told all countries not to interfere in a way that fuels the conflict and firmly stated its support for the unity and independence of Sudan, rejecting any attempt by the RSF to create a separate government.
