Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he held a very constructive phone call with Donald Trump’s peace envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, as US-led efforts to negotiate a potential peace deal with Russia entered a third day.
Zelensky said the discussion focused on ensuring Russia would honour any future agreement to end the war, stressing that Ukraine remained committed to working with the US in good faith to achieve peace. Ukrainian officials joined the call from Miami, where they are participating in ongoing talks with American negotiators.
Meanwhile, overnight, Russia launched 653 drones and 51 missiles, hitting energy facilities across eight regions and striking a railway hub in Fastiv, southwest of Kyiv.
On the other hand, negotiations in Florida between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Ukrainian national security chief Rustem Umerov are ongoing. Both sides called the first two days of talks constructive, saying they had agreed on a framework for future security arrangements but disclosed no details. They urged Russia to show a serious commitment to long-term peace after separate discussions in Moscow failed to advance.
