Drone strikes by Ukraine disrupt Air Travel in Moscow; Over 140 flights cancelled, major airports closed

A wave of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia led to temporary closures at Moscow’s main airports, with at least 140 flights cancelled. Russian media reported widespread disruption at Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovskiy airports, as thousands of passengers were left stranded or forced to sleep on terminal floors. Russia’s defence ministry claimed it downed 117 drones overnight, including 30 over Moscow, following 172 the day before. The disruptions affected travel across the country, stranding several thousand people in Russia’s Far East. Authorities deployed extra trains to bring passengers from St. Petersburg back to the capital region, home to 21.5 million people.
