Ukrainian lawmakers voted today to dismiss Justice Minister German Galushchenko. Legislators cited recent accusations that Galushchenko had improperly advanced the interests of a businessman, who has been charged by Ukrainian authorities in connection with an alleged multimillion-dollar kickbacks scheme at a state nuclear energy firm. Galushchenko and his successor at the Energy Ministry, Svetlana Grinchuk, had already submitted resignations following the disclosures. The vote came amid mounting pressure on Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko to deliver a detailed report, as a petition calling for a full cabinet reshuffle. Lawmakers unanimously backed removing Galushchenko, while fifteen abstained.
