Two killed as severe Nor’wester hits Mayurbhanj district in Odisha

In Odisha, two persons were killed, several others got seriously injured, and more than two hundred houses were damaged after a severe Nor’wester struck Mayurbhanj district yesterday. Strong winds uprooted several trees and electricity poles across at least twelve villages in the district.
 
The seriously injured persons have been shifted to a nearby hospital, while about forty others sustained minor injuries. Kia and Kankada villages under Karanjia block in the district were among the worst affected. The impact of the storm was so strong that an autorickshaw and a scooter were lifted by the winds and thrown into a nearby water body. The state government has announced an ex-gratia of four lakh rupees each for the families of the deceased.
 
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Warning for Mayurbhanj district today, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning, hail and gusty winds. A Yellow Warning has also been issued for the Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak districts of Odisha.
