Tuberculosis is too serious challenge to be addressed by govt alone: Minister for Science & Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh

Minister for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh, said that tuberculosis is too serious a challenge to be addressed by the government alone and equally too complex to be handled solely by the medical community. said this while announcing the world’s first-ever clinical study that will scientifically evaluate Ayurveda as an adjunct to standard Anti-Tuberculosis Treatment (ATT) in New Delhi. The collaborative study, undertaken by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Department of Biotechnology, will examine the role of Ayurveda as a supportive therapy in tuberculosis care. Dr Singh stressed that tackling TB requires a broader, collective effort, with active participation from families, society, NGOs, and social activists. He further said that the collaboration between the Ministry of AYUSH and the Department of Biotechnology will extend beyond institutional boundaries and evolve into a truly multidisciplinary initiative. He highlighted that the outcomes of the study can be integrated with genomic research to create a more comprehensive and effective approach.

Addressing the event, Union Minister of State for AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, today said that the treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) is not merely about eliminating the infection, but about ensuring the complete recovery of the patient. He said that the initiative reflects a broader healthcare approach that emphasises not just cure, but also improved nutrition, faster recovery, and better quality of life through the integration of traditional systems like Ayurveda with modern medicine.
