The monsoon has once again become fully active in Himachal Pradesh, significantly affecting normal life. Reports of heavy downpours have come in from several districts, including the capital Shimla, Mandi, Kangra, Bilaspur, Una, and Hamirpur. According to the State Emergency Operation Center, landslides have currently blocked 259 roads across the state, including one national highway. Additionally, 182 power transformers and 179 drinking water supply schemes have been disrupted. The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in four districts over the next 24 hours, and a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall across most parts of the state until August 4th.
During the past 24 hours, Sandhol in Mandi district recorded the highest rainfall at 210 millimeters. Apart from this, Mandi town received 200 mm and Pandoh, also in Mandi district, recorded 120 mm of rainfall. Notably, Mandi district remains the most disaster-affected area during this monsoon season. Early this morning, two separate cloudburst incidents occurred in the Jail Road and Hospital Road areas of Mandi town, causing sudden flooding. Water and debris entered houses, and dozens of vehicles were buried under the rubble. Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, Apoorv Devgan, stated that three people lost their lives in the incident, and one person was injured. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, and so far, 39 people have been evacuated safely. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms in four districts, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi over the next 24 hours. A Yellow Alert has also been issued for heavy rainfall in Una, Hamirpur, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts.
