Tiger Conservation Policy Needs Update: Union Minister Bhupender Yadav

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav has said that the tiger conservation policy now needs to be revised. He was addressing a two-day conference of Field Directors of Tiger Reserves and Chief Wildlife Wardens in Alwar today. He directed officials to review the decisions taken in the last 28 meetings of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). The Minister said that as India completes 50 years of tiger conservation, it is essential to update old policies in line with present-day challenges.

He informed that a new batch of cheetahs from Botswana is expected to arrive in India by the end of February. He also said that 24 countries have so far joined the ‘International Big Cat Alliance’ formed under the leadership of the Prime Minister. The Union Minister emphasized the need to develop a standard framework for rescue centres for the treatment of injured wildlife and orphaned cubs. Senior forest officials from across the country are participating in the conference.
