A dramatic heist at Paris’s Louvre Museum saw thieves steal crown jewels worth an estimated 88 million euros or 102 million dollars, excluding their historical value, French prosecutor Laure Beccuau said.
The theft occurred on Sunday morning, with four suspects using a crane to break into the Galerie d’Apollon. Eight rare artefacts linked to French royalty, including pieces from Empress Marie-Louise and Empress Eugénie, were stolen. Over 100 investigators are involved in the case, with authorities analysing fingerprints and urging the thieves not to destroy the jewels. The museum defended its security measures, saying the cases were upgraded in 2019.
