In Chhattisgarh, ten Maoists surrendered before the police today in Jagdalpur, the divisional headquarters of the Bastar region. Among those who laid down arms is Chaitu, also known as Shyam Dada, the alleged mastermind of the Jhiram Valley attack.
Police officials said that Chaitu, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, had been active in the Darbha, Katekalyan, Bhairamgarh and Malangir areas of Bastar. He is reported to have been the in-charge of the Darbha Division of Maoist organization. The Maoists surrendered before Bastar Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P. and Bastar Superintendent of Police Shalabh Kumar Sinha.
In the Jhiram Valley attack of 2013, nearly thirty people, including senior Congress leaders, lost their lives, while many others were injured.
