Telangana to Begin First-Ever Census Since State Formation from Tomorrow

Telangana is set to embark on its first-ever census since the state’s formation, with the self-enumeration phase scheduled to commence tomorrow and run until May 10. During a media briefing held at the GHMC headquarters in Hyderabad today, Telangana Census Director Bharati Hollikeri announced that this initiative represents a significant milestone as the country’s first digital census and the first since independence to include a caste-based count.

The Director explained that the self-enumeration process is designed to provide convenience to the public, allowing residents to voluntarily submit their details through the official government portal at https://se.census.gov.in. While emphasizing that this digital participation is an opportunity for citizens to engage directly in the process, she clarified that it remains optional and is intended to supplement the broader door-to-door data collection effort.

The census will be conducted in two distinct phases to ensure every household within the geographical boundaries of Telangana is accurately recorded. The initial stage focuses on house listing, where enumerators will visit every structure, including hospitals, schools, temples, and rented buildings, between May 11 and June 9 to mark and categorize them. Following this groundwork, the second phase will begin in February 2027 to collect detailed personal information from individuals across the state.

Bharati Hollikeri further noted that the administration has already begun dividing areas into specific blocks to assign enumerators effectively. This systematic approach aims to ensure that every family residing in any type of dwelling is accounted for. The official timeline ensures that all preparatory house-marking tasks are finalized well before the comprehensive individual enumeration begins in early 2027.
