Telangana Rain: State Govt Releases ₹200 Crore for Flood-Hit Districts

The state government has released 200 crore rupees to provide immediate relief to the districts that were affected due to the recent heavy rains and floods. State special chief secretary, revenue and disaster management, Arvind Kumar, in an order stated that the worst-hit districts like Kamareddy, Medak, Nirmal, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, and Rajanna-Sircilla will receive 10 crore rupees each. The remaining 26 districts will get 5 crore rupees each.

The funds are earmarked for urgent restoration works, like making damaged roads traffic-worthy, repairing culverts, small bridges, and low-level causeways, and restoring the drinking water supply. These funds cannot be utilised for ex-gratia compensation for loss of lives, crops, or livestock. The government also sanctioned an ex gratia of 5 lakh rupees each to the families of the victims who lost their lives due to the floods.

The government has also directed the collectors to complete the enumeration of other losses, including livestock and property damages, so that further relief can be extended as per State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms. The heavy rainfall between 25th and 28th last month caused large-scale destruction, particularly in Kamareddy, Medak, Nirmal, and Nizamabad districts. Rainfall during the current monsoon so far is 25 per cent above normal in the state, and eight districts received “large excess” rainfall, while another 10 districts recorded “excess” rainfall.
