The Department of Posts, Telangana Circle, has released two Special Postal Covers commemorating Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas last evening, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the revered tribal freedom fighter.
National Commission for Scheduled Tribes member Jatothu Hussain, Postal Services Board, India Post Manisha Sinha, Chief Postmaster General, Telangana Circle, Dr. Veena Kumari Dermal released these covers, relating to Tribal Dances and Tribal Musical Instruments of Telangana. The Special Cover depicts major tribal dances like Lambada/Banjara Dance, Gussadi, Aatapatas, Kalapath, Chenchu Dance, and Kolatam. These dances are performed to traditional instruments like Dapda, Nangara, Rabab, Pepri and Dhol, reflecting the rhythmic beauty and diversity of tribal culture.
Another cover featured a rich musical tradition expressed through three types of indigenous instruments crafted from wood, bamboo, gourds, clay, and animal hide. They include stringed instruments like Kinnar, percussion instruments like Dappu and Dhol and wind instruments like Kalikom and Pepri. The special covers are priced at 25 rupees and 20 rupees.
