Telangana: Over 3,000 Divyangs from 19 states join International Yoga Day event

In Telangana, more than three thousand Divyangs from about 19 states took part in the International Yoga Day event at Kanha Wellness Centre at Chegur. Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, called upon society to continue fostering the spirit beyond the day’s celebrations, ensuring no one is left behind and the inner potential of every individual is recognised.

 

Akashvani Correspondent reports that the International Yoga Day held at Kanha Shanti Vanam near Hyderabad today has been different from other such events in the country in many ways. The event witnessed participation of over three thousand four hundred differently abled persons, of different age groups from 19 different states. Showcasing inclusive Yoga, the event marked a significant milestone in the International Yoga Day events, with participation from all 21 recognised disability categories under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act-2016. The event has become the largest-ever gathering of PwDs performing Yoga at a single venue. The grand Yoga demonstration has set a new national record acknowledged by both the Asian Book of Records and also Indian Book of Records for the highest number of PwDs performing Yoga simultaneously at one location. The celebrations also witnessed vibrant cultural performances and a PwD-led exhibition and job fair showcasing artistic talent as well as entrepreneurial spirit.
