In a move to reinforce the state’s fight against narcotics, Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has proposed that students provide a formal pledge or declaration against drug use during the admission process in schools and colleges. The recommendation was made during a high-level meeting at Lok Bhavan with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and State Minister D. Sridhar Babu, where the group prioritized the creation of drug-free campuses across the state. The Governor emphasized the critical need for increased awareness regarding the dangers of substance abuse within the education sector. Beyond the admission pledge, he highlighted an upcoming large-scale awareness programme scheduled for June 12 at LB Stadium, which will be held under his leadership. During the discussion, which was also attended by MP Vem Narender Reddy, the Governor urged the state government to implement more rigorous controls to eliminate drug availability in educational environments. Chief Minister Reddy expressed his support for the initiatives, assuring the Governor that the state would carefully evaluate the proposals and take appropriate action to safeguard students.
