The Telangana State Election Commission has announced the schedule for Panchayat elections to be held in three phases on 11th, 14th, and 17th of next month. Counting will be held on the day of polling for each of the phases.
Polling will be held on a non-party basis. Addressing the media conference last evening, State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini informed that the process will begin for the non-party basis elections tomorrow. There are 12 thousand 728 sarpanch seats and one lakh 12 thousand 242 ward posts in 31 districts. As per the schedule the polling will be held for 4 thousand 236 panchayats in the first phase, while 4 thousand 333 in the second and 4 thousand 159 in the final phase. The commissioner said the whole exercise will be completed by 17th December.
Our correspondent says about 1 crore 60 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in more than one lakh polling stations using ballot papers. The commissioner further informed that besides setting up a toll-free number, 9240021456, a grievance module has been introduced for taking up complaints and an app will also be launched shortly.
