In the presence of Telangana Police, around 47 Maoists, including some women from Chhattisgarh state, surrendered today in Hyderabad. These Maoists belonging to the South Bastar Division of Chhattisgarh surrendered before DGP Shivdhar Reddy.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP Reddy said the surrendered Maoists handed over 32 weapons in their possession to the police. He announced that those who surrendered would be provided with a rehabilitation package of 1.20 crore rupees, along with Central Government incentives and free health cards. The DGP assured that the government will extend all support to those who wish to leave the forests and join the mainstream of society.
This large-scale surrender by Maoists has gained significance in the backdrop of the recent encounter in Jharkhand and the expiry of the deadline set by the Centre. The DGP clarified that all those who surrendered are from Chhattisgarh and that there are no individuals from Telangana among them.
Later, the DGP appreciated the dedication and coordinated efforts of the Special Intelligence Branch police. He stated that so far in the year 2026, a total of 260 underground Maoists have surrendered in Telangana. The DGP further said that only four Maoist cadres from Telangana are still underground and operating outside Telangana.
