In Tamil Nadu, polling is just two days from now. The Chief Electoral Officer, Archana Patnaik, has said that a total number of 5 crore 73 lakh 43 thousand 291 voters will elect the representatives for 234 constituencies on a single-phase polling on the 23rd of this month.
According to her, there are total of 75064 polling stations. The polling day falls on a Thursday, and a public holiday has been declared and a paid holiday for any establishment and other regular Government employees to exercise their franchise.
In a statement, Patnaik said that micro-observers will monitor the preparedness for poll and observe the election process being carried out in a free and fair manner. The CEO informed that Seven thousand 14 micro-observers are deployed for the General elections. The Election Commission has deployed 136 general observers, 40 police observers and 150 expenditure observers. Three hundred companies of the Central Armed Police Force, with over 83000 police personnel and over 40000 non-police personnel, have been deployed all over the State.
Over 1212 Crore worth of cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals and other prized articles have been seized as of today. Out of this, 495 Crore has been released on submission of the valid documents.
