Taiwan says it has detected heightened Chinese military activity near its territorial waters this morning. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence posted on social media platform X that 16 Chinese military aircraft, six naval vessels, and a government ship are operating around Taiwan.  

Eight aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone,  escalating regional tensions.
