Taiwan has begun deploying U.S.-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) during its 10-day Han Kuang military exercise, aimed at bolstering defences against China. HIMARS units were seen operating in Taichung, central Taiwan, today.
Military officials stressed the importance of concealing the weapons until ready to strike. China, which claims Taiwan as its own, condemned the drills as a bluffing and self-deceiving trick and reiterated firm opposition to U.S.-Taiwan military cooperation. Tensions have risen amid increased Chinese military activity near the island over the past five years.
