Rupee closed at Rs 83.19 against US dollar

In the forex market, the rupee on Thursday closed at 83 rupees and 19 paise against the US dollar.   The dollar index, which indicates the US currency's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies, was at 106.35 in intra-day trade.
