Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has said that early detection and affordability are the two major challenges in addressing genetic and rare diseases. He was addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone for the National Skill Development Centre, Skilling and Accessing Molecular Advancements in Research and Technology for Health (SAMARTH) in Hyderabad.
The Minister said, SAMARTH centre will address key skill gaps in forensic DNA profiling. He said efforts like this will help in preparing the healthcare system for personalised treatment. The Minister said unlike earlier decades, when the country was primarily battling infectious diseases, India has now entered a futuristic phase of healthcare system. Mr. Singh also inaugurated the iDeaNA-BRIC-CDFD Technology Incubator at the centre.
Established by the Department of Biotechnology, the SAMARTH centre will offer structured training, certification and outreach to develop an industry-ready workforce and promote indigenous diagnostic technologies. The iDeaNA-BRIC-CDFD Technology Incubator will accelerate early-stage innovations and deep-tech startups in life sciences and related disciplines.
