Syrian President Ahmed Sharaa is expected to visit Washington this month, marking the first-ever visit by a Syrian head of state to the US capital.

US Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack made the announcement yesterday on the sidelines of the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain.

Barrack told reporters that during the visit, Syria would hopefully join the US-led coalition to defeat the Islamic State.
