The Supreme Court has directed that the final supplementary voter list in West Bengal must be published today, following the completion of adjudication. Judges will be allowed to digitally sign documents until tomorrow if needed.
In a significant move, the apex Court has also ordered the appointment of three retired Chief Justices or Judges to oversee the speedy disposal of appeals related to names excluded from the voter list. The Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court will form this committee, which will monitor the work of 19 Appellate Tribunals. So far, nearly 59 lakh claims and objections out of 60 lakh have already been resolved.
The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M. Pancholi, emphasized that all tribunals must strictly follow the prescribed procedure. The Court will decide whether appeals can be filed outside Kolkata or only within the city. The next hearing in this matter has been scheduled for April 13th.
