Sunday witness clash between UML supporters and Police in Kathmandu

In Nepal, a clash broke out between police and UML supporters in Maitighar near Baneshwor in Kathmandu today. One demonstrator was injured during the clash when the CPN-UML supporters were staging protests against the arrest of party chairman and four times Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and demanding his immediate release.

After taking the oath on Friday, Prime Minister Balendra Shah chaired his first Cabinet meeting, in which it was decided to implement the recommendations of a judicial commission probing the Gen Z protests in Nepal last September. Following the decision, police arrested K P Sharma Oli from his Bhaktapur residence yesterday morning. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was also taken into custody from his residence.

Police arrested both leaders after issuing urgent warrants. K P Sharma Oli was later admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, where he is attending hearings of the Kathmandu District Court via video conferencing. Ramesh Lekhak is being held at a nearby police office.
