Summer sowing area expands by 15 lakh hectares: Agriculture Ministry

Summer crop sowing has covered over 42 lakh hectares across the country as of the 20th of this month. Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has said that summer sowing has seen strong growth this season, with the total area rising by 15 lakh hectares compared to last year. Rice has been sown over 27 lakh hectares, while pulses cover 4 lakh hectares. Pulses have recorded an increase, with sowing over 3.47 lakh hectares recorded during the same period last year.

The progress report released by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare shows that Shri Anna and Coarse Cereals were sown on nearly 6 lakh hectares. The area sown with Oilseeds crossed over 4.69 lakh hectares.
