Student volunteers to assist elderly and differently abled voters in Puducherry polls

Student volunteers will be deployed across all polling stations in Puducherry to assist elderly and differently-abled voters during the upcoming legislative assembly elections. A total of 1,736 volunteers from various colleges have been appointed by the District Election Officer’s office.

Two volunteers will be present at each of the 845 polling stations to provide assistance and to safely hold mobile phones of voters, as such devices are not allowed inside polling booths. In addition, two volunteers in each Assembly constituency will help identified differently-abled voters reach polling stations and cast their votes. The initiative is aimed at ensuring inclusive and accessible voting for all sections of society.

District Election Officer A Kulothungan inaugurated the deployment and distributed kits to the volunteers. He advised them to cast their vote first and then report for duty, and encouraged them to make use of this opportunity to contribute to society.
