Indian Railways carried over 137 million tonnes of freight in February this year, registering a significant increase of 3.96% as compared to the same period last year. The Railways Ministry said that the steady growth in freight reflects the sustained demand for rail-based logistics across sectors. Highlighting Indian Railways’ crucial role in supporting the country’s economic activity by ensuring the transportation of essential commodities, the Ministry said that the freight revenue during the month stood at over fourteen thousand five hundred crore. The Ministry further said that railways continue to strengthen their freight logistics through capacity augmentation, improved terminal infrastructure, dedicated freight corridors and digital freight management systems. It added that with the continued investments in infrastructure and freight operations, Indian Railways remains committed to enhancing its role as the backbone of the country’s logistics network and supporting India’s economic growth.
