The Karnataka state-run transport corporation employees have started a statewide indefinite strike from today, affecting the commuters across the state. A very few buses plied across the state, affecting the passengers since morning today. The Joint Action Committee of the transport union is demanding 38 months of pending salary amounting to 1700 crore rupees and is also seeking a salary hike of 25 percent. In his talks with the Union yesterday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had offered to pay 718 crore rupees, covering 14 months of arrears. This offer was rejected by the Union, resulting in the strike today. The High Court had also asked the Union to desist from going on strike today.
