Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to depart for the United States today to take part in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to the President’s Media Division, Mr Dissanayake is scheduled to deliver Sri Lanka’s address to the Assembly on Wednesday, September 24. He is also expected to hold talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and several world leaders on the sidelines of the session.
In addition to high-level diplomatic engagements, the President will meet members of the Sri Lankan diaspora in the United States. The visit comes as Colombo seeks to deepen international partnerships and present its position on pressing global and regional issues. Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, who also oversees foreign employment and tourism, will accompany the President during the official visit.
