Fourteen fishermen from the Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy today. They had gone fishing on the 8th of this month and were fishing near Kodiakarai when the Sri Lankan Naval personnel arrested them.

The boat in which they travelled was also seized. Twelve fishermen belonged to Vanakiryai village, and the remaining were from Cuddalore and Tharangambadi. Officials of the State fisheries department said that necessary action would be taken to bring the fishermen back.

The fishermen were taken to the Kankesanthurai Naval camp for inquiry. They were handed over to Fisheries Department officials at Jaffna for further action.
