Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath has thanked the Indian Government for its timely assistance in evacuating Sri Lankan nationals from Iran alongside Indian citizens. Calling it a “thoughtful act,” Herath said the gesture reflects the deep bonds and enduring partnership between Sri Lanka and India. In a post on social media platform X, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed sincere gratitude, noting that the act of solidarity is deeply appreciated by the people of Sri Lanka and exemplifies the strong ties between the two countries.
India’s evacuation efforts under Operation Sindhu were recently expanded to include citizens of Sri Lanka and Nepal, following formal requests from both governments. The Indian Embassy in Tehran will now coordinate evacuation support for the nationals of these neighbouring countries. The move has been widely seen as a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to regional cooperation and humanitarian outreach in times of crisis.
